Growing Grapes

We now have four grape vines, indeed the first grape vine was one of the first plants we planted when we started gardening and we did so as we had seen the fantastic job of providing shade, screening and food that our neighbours vine was doing. This photo is of our third grape vine, it is a Shiraz vine and it is absolutely covered in grapes. Last year this was the vine that was the most successful in our garden and it looks like it may be again this year. The many benefits of grape vines include their ability to produce food, shade, screening  and heat reduction as well as mulch when the leaves fall. There are useful articles on on how to prune grapevines at Gardening Australia and on their many uses in a permaculture garden here.
