Improving Soil - Fungal Soil

Here are photos the some of the fungi growing in mulch around our garden at the moment. I have no idea what they are at this stage and hope to be able to find out. What I do know is that having these grow in the garden is a sign of garden health and so i am really pleased to see them.

Beneficial fungi are certain species of fungi that protect our plants from disease by:
  • Out-competing disease organisms
  • Creating a healthy soil biology
  • Offering direct protection to our plants by producing anti-pathogens
  • Providing nutrients and water directly to the plants for better plant health
There is a very interesting article by Geoff Lawton on the benefits of fungi to the garden here.
