National Leftovers Day

In Australia, Boxing Day is National Leftovers Day – the day after Christmas when Australians are confronted by fridges filled with leftover food.

This bounty of food entering our households has one significant drawback: the waste. Over the Christmas and New Year period, Do Something! estimates that Australians could be throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars worth of food.
Do Something! runs National Leftovers Day to highlight the importance of embracing our leftovers and making the most of our food. With Australians each year wasting $8 billion on food that we buy and then throw away, using up our leftovers is a significant money saver for the average household and a saver for the environment too.
