Fejoas and Front Gardens

We have harvested about 2 kilos of fruit from the food hedge this week, our best year by far. And after seeing them at $15.99 a kilo in the local supermatket I was extra pleased that we had chosen this plant to create our hedge.

 

Our local lawnmower man has been kind enough to drop off extra lawn clippings, which I have been layering with shredded paper. we now have the first three layers of our new no dig front garden.

Front Garden May 2009- just beginning, planted a food hedge

After watching the video below about the difficulties of planting a vegetable garden in the front garden I realized  how lucky we are not to have such a problem. It is just two years ago that we planted a small food hedge, and since then the lawn has gradually been disappearing!

We think that the front garden looks much better full of food crops, and so much more useful!
