Final Harvest 2012

 Today we picked several kilos of produce, bringing our annual total to 150 kilos, here you can see a mixture of tomatoes, blackberries, raspberries and grapes.

This is the first year that this grape vine has produced fruit, it is on the boundary fence at the end of the pool and is clearly enjoying these conditions. Our crops have increased significantly this year, hopefully I will have more time next year and will be able to reach the 200 kilo mark.

Today in our Garden

 We have now replanted, manured, weeded and mulched most of the main front garden. Here you can also see one of the three bird baths and the mulberry tree in the background.

 We have trimmed back the basil and thyme and pulled out the spent tomato plants and planted beetroot, capsicum, coriander, lettuce and chillies.

 We have left in some of the spinach and rainbow chard and here you can see cucumbers, one of the compost bins,  and the grape vine growing up the trunk.

 We have two compost bins and three bird baths in the front garden, here you can also see the tomato bush we have not cleared out yet, growing with a volunteer pumpkin vine, in front of the pomegranate tree.

 This is the lamb's ear ground cover plant which is growing below one of our fig trees.

 Here is the food hedge at the front, and the row of trees in the nature strip, an olive, fig and loquat.

 There is also an almond tree amongst the fejoas.

 Hers is the yarrow plant that we have growing under the loquat tree, it is supposed to assist any plant that it grows near to.

 We now have three types of fig tree, two in pots and this one in the ground.

And whilst we have not yet feverfew flowers for their medicinal properties they certainly look lovely in this vase with the lily.

Update 1st August 2010 Mulberries and the rest

Here is our lovely Mulberry tree covered in new buds on a lovely sunny day.

And the new garden now has seeds in it, Rockmelon, Beetroot, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Capsicums and Italian Parsley.

And the new garden in the back yard is now finished and today we planted a Lillypilly, a Brazilian Cherry and a Ginko Berry shrub, as well some Peas, Lettuce, Tomatoes and Capsicum

 

And  we moved the Lemongrass from beside the pool and added some Geraniums.

And to finish here is one of the newly blooming Everlasting Dasies, beautiful.

Fifteen Kilos of Produce - only 185 kilos to go!

As of yesterday we have harvested 15 kilos of produce from the garden, since we started the weighing at the beginning of February. Cherry tomatoes, Rock Melons, Chilis and Eggplants are the staples. This shot shows the Watermelon vine, which hopefully will also produce lots of heavy produce.

Though we did harvest out very first Strawberry Guava yesterday, it was delicious, so we hope for many more as the tree grows. Other news, the neighbours have removed all the ivy from the fence as it was pushing the fence over and we are in the process of putting up some bamboo sheets to cover the ghastly fence.

 

  

Also we have beautiful flowers on the Garlic Chives plant.

  

And we are also trying to cool down the very hot spot which is the front of the house as it faces directly west, so we have planted a Virginia Creeper.

Update on Garden-May 2009

Here are the latest pictures, showing Andy assembling our first no dig garden out the front. It will take us a while to fill it with leaves, straw and newspaper, so we decided we should at least get started. The photos beside the pool show the area of pavers that i pulled up a couple of months ago. There was always grass growing there so we thought we may as well have something we could eat there. So separated out lots of chives and also have some surprise plants growing as a result of using worm castings. Finally, two shots of the no dig garden in the back garden, not the latest shot, but you get the idea of how amazing teh growth has been. In this garden we have tomatoes, eggplants, parsley, coriander, leeks, lettuce and potatoes regrowing
