Self determination - UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
It is deeply saddening that the Indigenous People of Australia are still facing so many challenges and difficulties in our society today. Human rights are for everyone, around the world, irrespective of race, religion, gender, sexuality, age, ability...or any of the other myriad ways that humans stereotype and discriminate against others who are not just like them. If we want a future where everyone can live fully and fulfill their unique potential then this type of behaviour must end. The Declarations of Human Rights by the UN create a guide for 'best practice' for everyone, it is time that Governments/Corporations and Peoples around the world abided by them and made the world a better place for everyone.

Russia: Crackdown on Social Media Users
When you live in a country like Australia it is easy to forget how fortunate we are to have the right/responsibility to vote, free speech and media. This is not the case for many, many people in the world and this impinges human rights and holds back the potential/progress of these citizens and indeed these countries. We hope that one day everyone in the world has the right to vote and is provided an opportunity to do so that is convenient, free and counted properly. We also hope that one day everyone has the right to provide feedback and offer opinions on the way their country is being run without fear. As well we hope that one day everyone in the world has access to independent media/social media which is well researched and able to cover the issues that will improve the world for us all.

SMS joke - Write for Rights
This poor young man, and many others, are wrongfully imprisoned around the world. We have been Writing for Rights with Amnesty International for many years and know the impact that working with others from around the world can have. We are very glad that they give us an opportunity to help and being very busy people it is much easier now to do so as it is no longer necessary to write, print and post the letters, it can all be done on-line.

The Black Sorrow - Raise Your Hands
Around the world there are marches, protests and meetings of people wanting to voice an opinion and be heard. There are many times when those in authority use force to close down these activities and in doing so many people are hurt or even killed. This is a dreadful situation for everyone there and only leads to further frustration, grief, anger and loss.
As well there have been too many 'everyday' incidents where people are killed causing great pain, anguish and suffering to so many people. To be able to walk the streets in safety is a human right and no-one should have to fear doing so. However, sadly, this is not the case in so many countries and for so many different reasons. This song by the Black Sorrows is a sombre reminder of the problems faced by people around the world and a call for empathy, compassion and change. For more information you can click here.

Andy Hall - Human Rights Day Appeal
| Source |
Andy Hall has been convicted in Thailand for reporting Human Rights abuses and today an Appeal was launched to the Thai Government to change their laws. Without people who are brave enough to stand up for others and report such abuses we will never attain a world where there is justice, equality and fairness for all. In far too many countries it is extremely dangerous to stand up for what is right and fair and we are fortunate to have organizations and people who do so for the benefit of us all.
